About Us

We are a chapter of Kiwanis International. The Kiwanis Club of Cincinnati, founded in 1916, is the 10th oldest Kiwanis club in the world! Today there are 7,800 Kiwanis clubs worldwide, with almost 600,000 adult and youth members in 80 countries.

Today, our club consists of over 40 members. Our members range in age from about 25 to 85. The professions of our members range from young professionals to retirees, contributing a wide range of experience, leadership and energy to our projects. Members live and/or work in all three Tristate areas. We come together to positively affect the lives of the children we serve, and we have a lot of fun in the meantime!

Mission

The Kiwanis Club of Cincinnati works to help alleviate poverty and hunger in the Cincinnati community, and build leadership, self-confidence, and a passion for volunteerism in today’s youth. As a chapter of Kiwanis International, we are dedicated to changing the world one child, one community at a time.

What We Do

Serving the Children of the World, locally and globally
Our club serves the Cincinnati community with a focus on hands-on service that has an immediate, lasting impact, rather than just fundraising for local causes. We regularly check-in with community leaders and organizations to determine the needs of the community and design our projects around those needs.

For a list of our service projects, please check out our SERVICE page. For upcoming events, please check out our CALENDAR.

Every Kiwanis club assesses local needs, designs service projects to address those needs, then raises the funds and provides the volunteers needed to conduct those projects. Any community need can become a Kiwanis service project–our focus is to strengthen communities and to make a better world for children through service and leadership. One of the great benefits of being part of a Kiwanis club is seeing the impact locally while also contributing to global causes.

Kiwanians respond to the needs of their communities by working together to achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. Kiwanis provides the opportunity for budding leaders to form enduring friendships, to offer philanthropic service and to build better communities for generations to come.

Building Community
We build a community where service-minded individuals can come together for fellowship and service. Every year, the club sponsors numerous fun events designed to bring together members in a casual setting for fellowship and friendship.

Creating Opportunities for Leadership
Developing a vibrant and diverse organization that is open to all, with opportunities for leadership locally and globally in one of the most respected service organizations in the world.

Tell me more about Kiwanis!

Kiwanis offers opportunities for volunteers of all ages to perform community service. In addition to community Kiwanis clubs, we sponsor and/or support:
  • The University of Cincinnati Circle K Club: Circle K International (CKI) is the premier collegiate and university community service, leadership development and friendship organization in the world.
  • The Cooking with KKids Club at Horizon Science Academy: K-Kids is the youngest and fastest growing Kiwanis service organization for elementary students worldwide.
  • The Cincinnati Aktion Club: Aktion Club is a Kiwanis community-service group for adult citizens who live with a disability.

How can I become a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cincinnati?

Membership is open to individuals who share the vision of improving the lives of those in need in our community through hands-on-service and financial support, with each member supporting the club in the ways that make most sense to them, based on personal interests and strengths.

What are the projects and activities of the club?

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Cincinnati have chosen to be active participants in our community. Each year, we offer many opportunities to support the mission of our club.

Examples include:
  • Participating in hands-on service projects to address basic needs of our community
    • Working with the Freestore Foodbank to prepare food for distribution to the needy.
    • Making “Trauma Dolls” given to children by police and firemen to help them to cope with a crisis.
    • Upgrading and creating new play areas for underprivileged children.
    • Serving dinner to families staying at Ronald McDonald House while a child is being treated at Children’s Hospital.
    • Preparing today’s youth for a brighter future
    • Sponsoring at-risk and high-performing youth at the Kiwanis “Key Leader” weekend leadership retreat.
    • Working with elementary schools, including Rockdale Elementary and Horizon Academy to promote better grades through programs such as “Bring Up Grades” (BUGS), a program which recognizes students who raise their grades to an acceptable range and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next, and “Terrific Kids”, a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance.
    • Sponsoring Kiwanis youth service organizations, including the University of Cincinnati Circle-K program, and K-Kids at Horizon Academy
    • Supporting the mission of Kiwanis International
    • Marshal local support and funding for The Eliminate Project, helping to wipe out maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT), a disease that kills an estimated 60,000 newborns and 30,000 mothers each year.
    • Carrying out service projects that align with Kiwanis International Young Children Priority One (YCPO), an ongoing community service program that addresses the needs of children up to 5 years of age. YCPO focuses on four key areas: maternal and child health, child care and development, parent education and support, and safety and pediatric trauma.
